Review of the Childminding Magazine by Claire Hassall from ''Claire Doing Small Things'' - ''Not Just a Childminder'' 1st Edition 2025

Published on 11 October 2025 at 10:55

From the very moment I held this magazine in my hands, I could tell it was

something special. The quality of the paper, the soft, rounded edges, and the

beautifully designed front cover featuring a stunning autumn scenery instantly

made me feel calm and inspired. The cover alone promises a fantastic experience,

and I am happy to say it truly delivers!

Inside, the magazine is thoughtfully divided into monthly sections, offering

continuous inspiration and support for childminders throughout the year

something I really appreciate.

September Section

September focuses on being in the woods and exploring beautiful outdoor places

with our childminding children, something that fits perfectly with my own setting’s

ethos. Claire has even included a helpful list for childminders and collaborated with

others in the profession, creating a real sense of community. I loved reading the

shared tips from fellow childminders; they truly help us all navigate the ups and

downs of our work together.

There is also a “30 Days of Self-Care Evenings” feature, which I absolutely love. It is a

reminder that we, as childminders, also need to rest and recharge. I will definitely be

introducing some of these ideas into my own evening routine after busy days; it is such a lovely way to restore balance.

October Section

Wow! October brings the spooky season to life! This section is packed with true,

spooky stories shared by other childminders. Claire’s interviews make for fascinating

reading; the experiences shared are simply out of this world! I love how this

section captures the fun, eerie side of autumn while still feeling personal and

connected to our work.

Moreover, if that was not enough, there is also a piece about luxury spa experiences - a perfect reminder to treat ourselves and recharge our batteries.

November Section

November begins with a bang, quite literally! The first page features a gorgeous

fireworks display that instantly makes you think of Bonfire Night. This month’s theme

celebrates childminders who run other small businesses alongside their childcare

settings. I found it inspiring and motivating, an excellent opportunity for networking,

discovering new ideas and connecting with others who share our passion.

There are also fantastic autumn recipes included, simple, comforting, and easy to follow.

You do not need to be an expert cook to enjoy them, which makes it even better!

I must say, I am genuinely impressed with Claire’s magazine. You can tell she has poured her

heart into every page. It is beautifully written, full of creativity, practical tips, and

encouragement: it is designed for childminders, by someone who truly understands us.

As a busy childminder myself, I often feel overwhelmed, but reading this magazine

genuinely helped me restore my balance and reminded me of why I love what I do. It

supports both our well-being and professional growth, and it’s such a lovely tool for

self-care, reflection, and connection.

I’ve heard that the Winter Edition will soon be going to print, so do not wait for it to

sell out! Make sure you grab your copy… I know I definitely will.
